Spirit Wind Aboriginal Hand Drum and Singing

Our Community

Welcome to Spirit Wind's community family. We dedicate this area on our web site to tell the history of Women's Hand Drum in our Aboriginal circle in Toronto and in the surrounding area and to the people who have supported us with their creative gifts.

Buffalo Jump

The first day of summer - June 21, is celebrated by the Native People of Canada as National Aboriginal Day also known as International Peace and Prayer Day. Here in Toronto, we celebrate with a Peace March, commonly known as the Buffalo Jump.

This past year, 2005, we gathered at the south-west corner of Nathan Phillips Square, Toronto's City Hall.
People of all races gathered in perfect harmony and unity awaiting to participate in the Buffalo Jump - Peace March.

The morning started with a Sunrise Ceremony at 5:30 am, followed by a breakfast for the participants.
At 9:00 am , people gathered and were led off by Spirit Wind, a women's traditional hand drum group.
We marched west on Queen Street West, until we got to Trinity Bellwoods Park. It was a wonderful experience.

Marching drumming, and singing with a common understanding that we support Peace, through healing songs, we convey a message of peace, love, and unity.
